ASTANA – The number of companies with founders from Nigeria and Sierra Leone registered in Kazakhstan increased sharply in July.

The number of Nigerian-founded companies rose by 68, while companies with founders from Sierra Leone rose by 45, the Data Hub analytical Telegram channel reported on Aug. 14.
The figures come as Kazakhstan expands economic engagement with African countries. Trade, logistics, agriculture, mining, investment and digital technologies are among the areas of cooperation. Kazakhstan is also developing a Strategy for Cooperation with African States and the African Union for 2025-2030.
Nigeria remains African leader
The number of companies with Nigerian founders increased from 359 on July 1 to 427 on Aug. 1, a 19% rise.
Nigeria has the largest number of registered companies in Kazakhstan among African countries and ranks 21st among all countries represented in the registry.
All Nigerian-founded companies are classified as small businesses. Education accounts for 56% of the total. The July increase came mainly from the “provision of other services” category, which added 61 companies. The latest rise follows an earlier increase in 2023, while the number of Nigerian companies declined in 2024 and 2025.
Sierra Leone sees 2.5-fold increase
Companies with Sierra Leonean founders increased from 30 on July 1 to 75 on Aug. 1. The 45 new registrations exceeded the total number recorded at the beginning of July.
The increase was concentrated in the “provision of other services” category, which went from zero to 44 companies. Education accounted for 20 organizations, up by one during the month.
